TJOLGTJAR
TJOLGTJAR/NUUN RAAGUUN SKUULKUUN
SELF-RELEASED, 2003
For some reason I find this band tongue-in-cheek in some way. I mean, I have a feeling one of the pictures on Tjolgtjar's website is an altered picture of Triple H and the beginning of "Waaiee Duusdaaraaie (Demon Expulsion)" is the chorus to Blondie's "One Way To Another." Maybe I'm not kvlt enough. No, scratch that. I'm definitely not kvlt enough.
Anyway, Tjolgtjar is the side project of Reverend from Blood Cult, and Tjolgtjar/Nuun Raaguun Skuulkuun seems to be a merger of psychedelia and black metal (I guess.) To be honest, this two-album combination is pretty good for the side project it is. There's a sort of punk influence in Tjolgtjar's music as well as (strangely enough) a hard rock influence. It's still black metal though, the kind of stuff I compliment anyway. Tjolgtjar/Nuun Raaguun Skuulkuun is aggressive, uncompromising black metal in the old-time, ancient thrash sense. Reverend's vocals are high-pitched and raspy but still credible as black metal growls. Basically, Tjolgtjar/Nuun Raaguun Skuulkuun has a whole "heavy metal" sound while still being more legible as black metal than most of the atypical one-chord-and-a-drum-machine Christ-hating followers out there. Plus, Tjolgtjar/Nuun Raaguun Skuulkuun has bad production values! Tjolgtjar/Nuun Raaguun Skuulkuun is something you need, dammit.
Apparently Tjolgtjar's music can be found on Soulseek from user ryanpres1, by the way. I'd tell you to check it out, but you're as unworthy as I am to understand everything about Tjolgtjar. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go worship Thy Mighty Favog. Saatuurdaaiie Niiht Liiev is more kvlt than you'll ever be. Jaakkaass.
